The Four Golden Rules To Get Back On Track This Christmas

1) Re-Evaluate Your Career Goals

It’s important that this step is first as it will frame everything you do to realise your ideal career from this point on. Look at where you are and where you want to be. Can you see a clear path to your career goals? If not, it might be time to make a change and take the initiative to carve out your own path.

2) Get Lean (Don’t worry, we mean with your CV, not your Christmas dinner!)

We’re coming to the end of another year and that means your past experience is another year older. It might be time to cut those two weeks work experience at your dad’s office from 2010. But as always, best practice is to tailor your CV for each job application.

3) Make The Most Of Your Holiday Catch-Ups

Use those Christmas get togethers with family and friends to network. Let people know how you plan to progress your career. This way, they might think of you if something comes up. You can also ask people questions about their careers if they’re on your chosen path. It’s always useful to have a ‘Do and Don’t’ list when you’re achieving your goals.

4) Put It In Writing

How many times can you honestly say that you’ve stuck to your new year’s resolutions? Use your career goals as your resolutions this year. Write them down step by step and stick them up somewhere you see regularly to keep you on track. The more you break these goals down, the less daunting these can be. You could even set weekly or monthly goals and have the opportunity to tick something off at regular intervals.
